Summer Art Classes for Children

Art Classes for Children, 7 – 11 years
Runs Every Saturday, 10:00am – 10:45am Eastern time, on Zoom
From July 1st – July 29th 2023 (5 classes)

While general concepts are going to be illustrated by the instructor, children will have the liberty to dictate the direction of their work. Each class progressively builds on the art piece from the first class and culminates in a final, finished piece of artwork. Each participant is expected to have a different and unique outcome from the final pieces of other participants. Each class explores a different art concept which will be integrated into the artwork.

Class 1 (July 1st): Participants are shown various images of African fabric prints for inspiration. Instructor introduces color theory. Participants choose the colors that they will use to create their piece. Participants decide on and paint background color.

Class 2 (July 8th): Participants discuss the concept of repetitive images in African fabric prints. They decide on which image will recur in their work. Participants draw template of their preferred image and outline it on their piece.

Class 3 (July 15th): Participants discuss concept of negative space in their work and decide on color to fill the space. Participants paint negative space.

Class 4 (July 22th): Participants explore repetitive patterns in African fabric prints. They develop their unique patterns and apply it to their artwork.

Class 5 (July 29th): Participants name their artwork, introduce it to other participants and discuss their process.

*Participants’ finished artworks, NOT participants, may be displayed on various media platforms to promote subsequent classes.
